Q: Is Windsor Institute of Commerce a registered and accredited organization?
Yes, Windsor Institute of Commerce is registered and accredited to provide Nationally Recognized Training by the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) to both International and domestic students. Windsor Institute of Commerce is also registered in the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS). All of these are government bodies.
Q: What facilities do you offer?
We are located right in the heart of the Sydney CBD and are surrounded by shopping malls, cafes and restaurants. Buses and Trains are close by and so are the Harbour Bridge, the Opera House and all other
sightseeing venues.
We have state-of-the-art facilities including the latest computers and other technology. We offer free Internet access, free tea and coffee, a fully equipped student common room with microwaves and a kitchen. Our Student room houses a wide-screen TV where you can play games or just laze around with your friends.
Windsor Institute of Commerce provides its students with information-packed free lanyards including the Student Handbook and all the forms you will need.
Q: Are your Staff Qualified?
Yes certainly. All Windsor staff both Administrative and Teaching staff are fully qualified for the work they perform. Our Teaching staff also attend professional development workshops regularly to ensure they are keeping abreast of the latest teaching pedagogy and industry trends.
Q: What support services do you offer?
Windsor Institute of Commerce has fully qualified Student Services Officers, many of whom will speak your own language. If the Student Services Officer cannot assist you, then you will be directed to the Course Coordinator or the Director of Studies who can make a decision based upon you circumstances.
Windsor Institute of Commerce also has a list of government and other agencies in the Student Handbook if you need outside assistance. Our staff are here to help you and to make your study experience as enjoyable as possible.
Q: How do I apply for entry?
If you wish to apply for entry, you would have to contact us and provide us with evidence of your English proficiency, your age and your previous study history. This can be done by email, fax or contacting one of our valued Agents in your home country. Please refer to our Agent’s list for the contact details of our Valued Student Recruitment Agents. Q: How many hours do I have to study and on which days of the week?
By law, and as a condition of your student visa, an International student must attend a minimum of 80% of the scheduled hours for the duration of the course. Windsor Institute of Commerce has a very flexible timetable which allows you to complete the 20 hours per week in 2.5 days or over 5 nights per week. Please refer to our sample timetable.
Q: Do I have to attend the Orientation?
Yes you do. At Orientation you will have the policies and procedures explained to you. You will also select the timetable of your choice. Orientation is also essential for you to register and sign that you have arrived at the Windsor Institute of Commerce so that you are not reported to the government within 14 days for non-commencement of studies.
Q: I have been to College before. Can I apply for Recognition of Prior Learning, Current
Competencies or Credit Transfer?
Yes you can. Windsor Institute of Commerce has a form for each of these on your student lanyard. Please note that the granting of any form of RPL after enrollment may shorten your course and therefore the duration of your visa. Please talk to our Students Services Officer before you apply for RPL if you have any concerns. Windsor Institute of Commerce is obliged by law to recognize qualifications issued by other registered providers in Australia.
Q: How do I get a Student visa?
Different countries have different visa processes. Windsor Institute of Commerce advise you to check with your local Australian High Commission, Embassy or Consulate and ask for the ‘Student visa section’. They will advise you on what documents or other forms of evidence you may need. Alternatively you may visit the Department of Immigration and Citizenship’s website at: www.immi.gov.au
Q: Do I need an IELTS or TOFEL score to enroll at Windsor Institute of Commerce?
No, you can provide other forms of evidence. Please refer to Windsor Institute of Commerce’s entry requirements in the Courses section.
Q: Can I work while I am studying?
Yes, International students can work up to 20 hours per week whilst the course is in session. When Windsor Institute of Commerce has scheduled holidays you are free to work as many hours as you wish. Please refer to our Academic Calendar and you will see that the Windsor Institute of Commerce’s courses are in session 40 weeks per year with another 12 weeks of holidays.
Q: Do I have to submit all of my assignments in order to pass?
Yes, you must fulfill the academic requirements of the course and that means handing in all assessable work to gain a qualification. Students who do not progress satisfactorily will be warned and monitored until they catch up. Student who still fails to fulfill the academic requirements of the courses will activate Windsor Institute of Commerce’s Academic Intervention Strategies.
Students who fail to make satisfactory academic progress throughout the course will not receive a qualification but will instead, receive a Statement of Attainment for those units that they did pass.
Q: What about if I want to leave Windsor Institute of Commerce before I finish my course and go
to another College/Institute?
This is called a ‘Transfer between Provider’ and is subject to government regulations. You must complete the first 6 months of your principal course (which is usually the highest course you have enrolled in) before you can apply for a release. A release letter can be given before then but only on very limited grounds. Please refer to the link to the National Code 2007 which will outline what these grounds are. Also please refer to Windsor Institute of Commerce’s refund policy regarding your fees.
Q: I want to go to University. Can you help me?
Yes we certainly can. We will provide academic counseling for you. Our Director of Studies has a number of years experience in the University sector and all of our staff have degrees from Australian Universities so they can guide you on your choices.
Q: Is it easy to get a job in Sydney?
Yes, it is relatively easy to find part-time work in Sydney. Many employers often advertise on the Student Notice Boards or there are a number of free websites like www.seek.com.au or www.gumtree.com.au
Q: How much are my fees?
Please refer to the fees list. Fees may vary from time-to-time but are correct at the time of publishing. Fees also vary depending on the length of your course.
Q: Do I have to pay all of my fees upfront?
No, Windsor Institute of Commerce has a very flexible payment plan scheme. Please contact Windsor Institute of Commerce for a personal payment plan. Remember late or non-payment of fees can result in you being reported to the Department of Immigration for non-payment of fees when you are an enrolled student.
Q: How much does it cost to live in Sydney?
Sydney is a relatively inexpensive city. However, you will need your tuition fees plus about $300-$400 per week for living expenses depending on where you choose to live and how expensive your tastes are. Please remember that International students do not receive travel concessions whilst in Australia.
